In this procedure titanium screws (Oral Implants) with integrated ball-tops are placed, where they will fuse into the bone. The procedure typically takes less than an hour, and is performed under local anesthesia.
Your existing denture is modified to sit comfortably over the implants during the healing phase. After the implants have healed, your denture is modified to snap onto the ball-tops. This denture will be secure until you remove it for cleaning.
Daily cleaning of Implant dentures consists of removing your denture at night and brushing around your Dental Implants to remove any food and plaque. Brushing also stimulates blood flow in the surrounding gum tissue.
Following your Implant dentist's post-operative instructions and maintaining your dental hygiene are key factors in ensuring the long-term success of your treatment.
As a removable denture has been made to fit over your dental implants, it is important to understand that in addition to the above, your denture is replaced every five years, by your Implant dentist.Failure to do so , may place extra strain on the Implants, which could result in their eventual loss or breakage.
As the over denture is held onto the Dental Implants by magnets and keepers, then these too will need to be periodically replaced by your dedicated Implant dentist.
