Dental Crowns & Bridges

Dental Crowns
Dental crowns and bridges are the historical standards in dental restorations and are a cosmetic dentistry procedure with which many people are familiar with. For many years, these restorations were made entirely from precious metals (gold alloy) exposing a gold or a dull-looking dark tooth.
These precious metals are still used in bridgework, but today there is the added aesthetic of porcelain, which makes the crowns & bridges look and function like your natural teeth.
If you have heavily chipped or fractured teeth? Teeth that appear not to have formed in their entirety or several missing teeth? Not to worry, as we can help you to restore your smile with beautiful, healthy looking teeth with our expertise in the areas of dental crowns and bridgework.
A dental crown is essentially a protective cover for a broken tooth. It reshapes and improves the appearance of a discolored or misshapen tooth, whilst also preventing the tooth from further damage. A dental crown will cover an individual tooth, while a series of crowns can be linked together to form a bridge which can then replace a missing tooth.
A perfectly healthy, adult tooth should not need to be crowned, and we would strive to minimize any invasive dental treatment to a tooth such as this , but regrettably not all teeth are as fortunate with damage to them resulting from decay and resultant dental treatment, restorations, external trauma and other tooth fractures as well as wear and erosion of natural tooth surfaces all can lead to weakened or compromised tooth structure and sometimes dental crowns can be the best way of rebuilding and stabilizing such teeth.
We think that it's best to use bio-compatible materials for dental crowns. Modern all-ceramic crowns look really natural, are extremely strong, and last for years. In addition you will avoid having those dark margins at the base of your crowns. Dental crowns and bridgework may be placed either on natural teeth or on implants surgically embedded.

Dental Bridges & Bridgework
Dental bridges consist of a unit of multiple dental crowns held together and are used to replace missing teeth or "bridge" the gap between healthy teeth. The two crown units on either end of the bridge are usually hollow and are fixed over the top of the supporting teeth on either side of the gap. with dental bridges particular attention must be paid to oral hygiene. Alternative solutions to replace the missing teeth are dental implants or dentures.
Reasons for a bridgework:
- Fill space of missing teeth with dental bridges.
- Maintain facial shape
- Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.
- Restore chewing and speaking ability.
- Restore your smile.
- Upgrade from a removable partial denture to a permanent fixed solution.
- Dental implant not a viable option due to bone deficiency

Dental Crowns & Bridges Procedure
1. During your first visit:
- The tooth to be repaired is prepared by removing all decay and damage.
- Your cosmetic dentist; Dr. Kaviani will take an impression of the tooth and send that impression, to the ceramist where your crown /bridgework will be custom-made.
- While you wait for the permanent teeth crown / Bridgework to be made, you can have a temporary crown to cover that tooth, protecting it and giving you a better chewing surface.
2. In your second visit, approximately two weeks after the first:
- Your qualified cosmetic dentist; Dr. Kaviani will attach the crown temporarily and have you bite down, to test the crown's shape.
- If necessary, he'll do some fine-tuning, until your teeth meet in a correct and comfortable way.
- When both you and she are pleased with the fit, she will then use special bonding agent to permanently attach the crown, and it becomes your new tooth.
Meticulous Craftsmanship
There are many different types and brands of dental crown and bridges available today. At Lane Ends Dental clinic your cosmetic dentist will put the time and effort into having all your crowns and bridgework laboratory custom made as we believe that we get superior results with the fit, strength as well as beautiful aesthetics in our restorations. The majority of the cosmetic dentistry work that we provide today is all-ceramic.
We still make traditional gold and porcelain fused to metal crowns and bridges, especially in cases where there may be higher biting forces present or limited space in the bite and aesthetics are not of prime concern. In some cases it is also appropriate to conserve remaining tooth structure and provide partial coverage restorations such as porcelain veneers, or composite inlays and onlays.
